FAQ

How to Clean the Tarnish on a Nickel Plate?

Like other metals, nickel will begin to tarnish. In time, the sheen of the nickel will dull and become darker in colour. The tarnishing will continue to darken unless you clean it. This cleaning process will restore any nickel-plated item to its original lustre and shine.

First, mix water and ammonia in equal parts, enough to immerse the object in the mixture. Add the ammonia solution to the bowl or container. Allow it to sit for 30 minutes.

Second, remove the item from the solution. Gently scrub the object with the soft-bristle brush to remove tarnish. Repeat in 30-minute intervals until the tarnish is gone. Rinse and dry the piece completely.

How to select suitable washing detergent?

For best results, select a non-biological detergent containing no optical whiteners, bleaching agents or enzymes that can cause colors to fade or become patchy and can also damage fabrics. When washing, do not place the detergent directly onto the laundry, but ensure liquids are dispersed and powders completely dissolved before immersing the items to be washed.

Line drying is ideal for leaving your laundry outdoor-fresh and almost crease-free, but using a tumble dryer at the correct setting also gives good results. When using a tumble dryer, do not over dry laundry and remove it promptly to reduce crease.

Washing and drying linens correctly will help reduce crease and make ironing easier. Natural fibres crease more when new, but with time the fabric softens and this will reduce. For best results, iron your bed linen whilst still slightly damp, using a steam iron. As with a shirt collar, always iron the corners of pillowcases from the outside inwards to avoid corner crease. For embroidered and embellished items iron them on the reverse to enhance and protect it.

How to take care of Chilewich tablemats?

Be sure to store tablemats flat. Do not fold or allow them to crease. Chilewich tablemats clean easily with soap and water. A damp cloth or a sponge is all that is necessary. Do not recommend dishwasher or washing machine use. Should a stubborn stain occur, woven vinyl is very durable and can withstand scrubbing with a bleach-based cleanser. This will remove the stain without altering the fabric. Permanent stains may result when certain food or liquids are left on the tablemat for long periods before cleaning. This is more likely to occur with lighter-color textiles. Air dry. Do not iron.

How to clean jute rug?

Natural fiber floor coverings like the Jute area rugs are relatively easy to maintain because dirt does not cling to the hard fibers, but rests loosely in the weave. Natural fibers do not show dirt readily. Regular vacuuming is the best care you can do to keep the fresh appearance of your Jute flooring. Visible and loose dirt should be vacuumed with a strong brush-suction vacuum. Vacuum the carpet from different directions, making several passes over the area.

Although the need may not be visible, this frequent and regular vacuuming will increase carpet life by preventing soil build-up, and will help eliminate stains caused when spilled liquids dissolve soil accumulations. Never steam clean or wet-shampoo a natural fiber floor covering.
